Sergeant in Arms Sue Svenson introduced President Lee.
President report.
Before I start our meeting proper, I wish to acknowledge, with a heavy heart, the tragic events that happened in our community last week.
Unless you are in the same circumstances, you cannot possibly understand fully how something like that can happen.
I am calling for a minute’s silence as a mark of respect, not only for the two gentlemen who passed away, but also for their families and friends, most of whom are part of our community and must be hurting very much right now. Silence please.

Bill Van Ast PHF Appreciation Speech.
This evening I would like to demonstrate the appreciation that we, at the Rotary Club of Batavia Coast, have for the mammoth contribution our member, Mr William (Bill) VanAst has made over the yearsto both the club and the community of Geraldtonas a whole, by awarding him with his second Paul Harris Fellow.
The presentation of Paul Harris Fellow recognition is The Rotary Foundation’s way of expressing its appreciation for a substantial contribution to its humanitarian and educational programs. It is named for our founder, PaulHarris, a Chicago lawyer who started Rotary International with three business associates in 1905.
Rotarians often designate a Paul Harris Fellow as a tribute to a person whose life demonstrates a shared purpose with the objectives of the rotary foundation. Today we have the honour and pleasure of recognising William (Bill) Van Ast as he receives his second Paul Harris Fellow.
It gives me great pleasure, Bill to present to you the emblems of appreciation given to a Paul Harris Fellow in this pin. Please accept our congratulations and sincerest thanks, for your commitment to the community of Geraldton and especially the Rotary Club of Batavia Coast.

Breaking! Obituary
West – Jeanette May 16th March 2018.
Mrs West was the wife of Donald Allan West. Donald West was a member of our rotary club from 1973 to 1984. He served our club as a service director of several committees and as president in 1979/1980.
It was in 1980 that our club initiated the practise of Presidents service directors and club officers to compile and present to the club. Annual reports of their activities and achievements for each respective year. A practise that has been followed every year since 1980, providing unending historical information for new members and the clubs history.
The combined Annual District Conference 2018 is not far away and I recommend you all attend as much of it as you can. It is a great way to increase your knowledge and get some new ideas on fund raising etc. Over the years our club has picked up some excellent projects from other clubs. Geraldton rotary clubs have hosted many district conferences with the 1st one as far back as 1958 held in the Geraldton Town Hall and hosted by the Rotary Club of Geraldton.
Enjoy your week, Faye.
